NEC has been conducting environmental audits at its facilities in Japan since 1973. The audits are aimed at understanding the environmental conditions at sites, identifying problems, and giving guidance on corrective measures. The knowledge gained from these audits is reflected in subsequent activities. Since 1987, NEC's overseas manufacturing subsidiaries have been audited.
