Little tern - illustration motif Little tern - illustration motif
Little terns migrate from Australia to Japan in spring and summer to rear fledglings, flying 10,000 km over the ocean. The little tern is registered in Class II of the Red Data Book of the Ministry of Environment as an endangered species. The illustration was drawn to promote a nature protection charity event entitled “NEC Student Birdathon 2004 Save the Little Tern! Saving Migratory Birds on Tokyo Bay Shores” that combines bird watching and a fund-raising campaign to support the NPO Little Tern Project for the protection of birds such as these.
