In FY 2005, NEC started a Rice Paddy Building Project. It is a joint effort to rebuild a rice paddy in a ravine with an NPO called Asaza Fund. NEC decided to take part in order to improve the environmental awareness of NEC Group employees and their families and to contribute to society through environmental activities. The number of dragonflies in the paddy field has increased twofold since last year. No agricultural chemicals are used in the field, and animals and plants that were once thought to be on the verge of extinction have started living there, demonstrating the steady recovery of the ecological system in the ravine.
