Each of NEC's Group companies establishes and implements its own environmental management system in accordance with the business characteristics of that company. However, to sufficiently unify the overall NEC Group company activities, NEC ensures that each company is thoroughly familiar with our concept of environmental management, "Ecology through IT," and NEC's environmental management vision. As a result, it is my belief that there has been a significant increase in the implementation ratio of environmental management in the business activities of the NEC Group.
As a group, we must continue to focus on implementing environmental management and actively contribute to environmental efforts.
As the global community has become acutely aware, climate change is one of the most urgent issues facing us today. Our role at NEC is to create a mechanism by which NEC's business growth will contribute commensurately to a healthier environment. Consequently, in our Environmental Management Vision 2010, we target an environmental impact of zero. Once we have achieved that, we must change our business model to create a negative environmental impact. Thus, the NEC Group as a whole is now committed to achieving the next stage of environmental management.
This is the third NEC Annual Environmental Report since FY 2005 to be completely web-based. And since FY 2005, environmental reports have also been issued quarterly to increase the amount of information available to stakeholders and to ensure that the information is as current as possible. The Internet is now the most common means by which people search for information. I therefore feel that we made the right choice in providing information through our company website.
From now on, our aim is to establish more bi-directional communications. We want to be able to incorporate input from readers in our environmental management. We therefore hope that our readers will send many more comments. It is our goal to establish and implement a new IT approach to environment-related communications based on the concept of information quality, volume, freshness, and bi-directionality.
We invite you to read NEC Annual Environmental Report 2007. And please send us your opinions regarding not only environmental management by the NEC Group, but also our provision of information in general.
