NEC established its forward-looking "NEC Environmental Management Vision 2010" in March 2003 in considering its environmental management efforts.
NEC announced its position on contributing to a sustainable society and specific target values for preventing global warming by cutting CO2 emissions to "0" by 2010 and promoting its activities based on the following 3 aspects towards these targets.

The following are the results in FY2009:

CO2 emissions deriving from energy usage fell an absolute value of 90,000 tons compared with the previous fiscal year. This drop was due to energy conservation measures for the planned introduction of highly efficient energy-saving equipment and improved productivity through production innovation, as well as decreases in production volumes. The GWP converted emission volume successfully reduced greenhouse gases other than CO2 by 47% compared with the previous fiscal year through the introduction of new elimination devices and the effects of gas substitution. In addition, logistics-based CO2 emissions dropped 42,000 tons, 13% of that compared to the previous year, through such measures as changing to regularly-scheduled trucks from unscheduled ones and decreasing the number of allocated cars. Thanks to the manufacturing activities of FY 2009, CO2 emissions were reduced to 1.65 million tons, leaving us just a step away from the FY 2011 target of 1.63 million tons. We will reach this goal by continuing to strengthen and promote measures.
Reducing CO2 emissions through energy saving products
With a goal of reducing CO2 emissions during usage to 30% compared to that of products developed in FY 2006, we succeeded in surpassing that number with a reduction of 45%. We now will work toward a further reduction of 100,000 tons by FY 2011 through reinforcing the development of energy-saving related technology, developing highly efficient devices and power-saving control software, and creating a multitude of top-runner environmental products using these technologies.

The effect of reductions in CO2 emissions reached 1.89 million tons and has increased further through the IT solutions provided in FY 2009. Assessment at the development stages of software and services is solid and ecology and solution activities within NEC Group are being stabilized. In FY 2010, NEC will work toward increased coordination between emphasizing the effect of reductions in the environmental impact and the business of IT solutions in order to achieve the environmental management vision.
