ECO Symbol Star System

Since FY2009, NEC has developed and continued to operate the "ECO Symbol Star System" to promote the development of environmentally oriented top-runner ECO products (referred to as the products henceforth).
This system is positioned at the upper level of the conventional ECO Symbol System and assigns an "ECO Symbol Star" to the products that satisfy the qualification standards as top-runners within NEC and the industry.
ECO Symbol Star
The basic conditions for using the ECO Symbol Star are as follows.
- Satisfy the ECO product or ECO software service standards.
- Satisfy the ECO Symbol standards.
- Satisfy the ECO Symbol Star standards.
- Ensure transparency.
The ECO Symbol Star standards are as follows.
- Any of the following four items must be satisfied.
(1) Global warming prevention
(Hardware products)
- Achieve a CO2 emission reduction rate of 50% or more (compared to the conventional product).
- Equipped with technology that is a first within the industry.
(Software solution products)
- Achieve a CO2 emission reduction rate of 50% or more (compared to the conventional product).
CO2 emissions are calculated in accordance with the FY 2006 "Guideline for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Eco-Efficiency Evaluation" issued by the Japan Forum on Eco-Efficiency.
- Can be evaluated for contributing to CO2 emission reduction or is a solution that contributes to CO2 emission reduction.
(2) Resource recycling
- Uses 80% or more of bioplastics (ratio to the total weight of bioplastics for the frame)
- Introduces technology for the first time within the industry or introduces a system with unique and innovative features.
(3) Evaluation
- External prize is awarded.
- Internal prize is awarded.
(4) Technological superiority
- Overwhelmingly contributes to a reduction in the environmental impact with NEC's technology.
