NEC Corporation and NEC Foundation of America Make Donations Totaling $1 Million to Disaster Relief Efforts

New York, N.Y. - September 21, 2001 - NEC Corporation and NEC Foundation of America today announced donations totaling $1 million to support relief efforts surrounding the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.

NEC Corporation will make a $700,000 contribution to The September 11th Fund. The Fund was established by the United Way and The New York Community Trust to help respond to the immediate and longer-term needs of the victims, their families, and communities affected by the events of September 11, 2001. One hundred percent of monies donated to the Fund will go directly to the victims and those affected by the disaster.

NEC Foundation of America will make a $300,000 donation to the "Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund" managed by the Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America (CSFA) in Minneapolis, MN. The purpose of the fund is to provide assistance for postsecondary undergraduate education to financially needy children and spouses of those killed or permanently disabled as a result of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.

"NEC joins the world in its grief and sadness over the immense loss resulting from the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C. on September 11, 2001," said Koji Nishigaki, President of NEC Corporation. "The contributions announced today are in keeping with NEC's fundamental commitment to the communities in which we live, work and do business. NEC and its employees, like so many around the world who have come together in response to this tragedy, will continue to find ways to assist the victims, their families and the devastated communities."

These contributions follow immediate efforts by various NEC subsidiaries within the United States to respond to other needs through local donations and blood drives.
