The Earth Simulator Center Receives 2003 Computerworld Honors 21st Century Achievement Awards




NEC Corporation (NEC) announced today that The Earth Simulator Center (Yokohama, Japan; Tetsuya Sato, Director-General) which operates Earth Simulator (Note) received 2003 Computerworld Honors 21st Century Achievement Awards in the Environment, Energy, and Agriculture category at National Building Museum in Washington D.C. NEC has nominated the Earth Simulator for the award.

The Earth Simulator Center has been selected from 313 cases nominated by approximately 100 IT leaders around the world and awarded for the use of information technology to make great strides toward remarkable social achievement in the Environment, Energy, and Agriculture category.

NEC has been committed to the project with full-scale efforts since it was initially selected to develop the basic design in 1997 and installed the system in March 2002.

NEC is highly honored that the Earth Simulator Center has awarded 2003 Computerworld Honors 21st Century Achievement Awards, one of the most prestigious award in information technology field.
