NEC Supplies HSDPA Infrastructure Systems To NTT DoCoMo

*****For immediate use October 2nd, 2006

Tokyo, October 2nd, 2006 --- NEC Corporation (NEC) announced that it has supplied High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) infrastructure systems to NTT DoCoMo, which successfully launched a HSDPA service in Japan on August 31, 2006.

Prior to this commercial service, NTT DoCoMo conducted a field trial of the high-speed network which NEC cooperated and supplied HSDPA infrastructure systems including node-B base stations and radio network controllers (RNC). During the trial, the performance of NEC's HSDPA systems was verified through the achievement of a maximum data download speed in the commercial HSDPA service area of 3.6Mbps and other features such as flexible and variable transmission speed control in various radio wave environments.

"HSDPA is an important service for NTT DoCoMo which provides advanced high speed data transmission to our customers. The first worldwide commercial 3.6Mbps data transmission service was realized with the cooperation of NEC and other vendor partners. NTT DoCoMo will continue to work for the advancement of mobile communication." said Takanori Utano, member of the Board, executive vice president and chief technical officer of NTT DoCoMo, Inc.

NEC also delivered HSDPA mobile handsets "FOMA(R) N902iX HIGH-SPEED" for this new commercial service in Japan.

As a total solution provider of 3G services, NEC has proven the commercial viability of its 3G infrastructure systems for HSDPA. Besides NTT DoCoMo, NEC has carried out HSDPA trials through the cooperation of local mobile operators overseas such as Hutchison 3G in Hong Kong and UK. The shipments of HSDPA infrastructure systems for commercial services are expected to step up within this fiscal year.
