*****For immediate use October 20, 2006

Tokyo, October 20th, 2006 --- NEC Corporation today announced that it has enhanced its Mobile Internet Platform "NEMIP" for global mobile operators by adding a new multi-operator function, allowing them to share a common i-mode platform and i-modeTM service with their affiliated companies, even across geographical borders.

Greece's largest mobile operator "COSMOTE Mobile Telecommunications S.A." is the first user of the new and advanced NEMIP platform and expands its "i-mode" service, which began operation in June 2004, to Bulgaria in September 18, 2006.

NEC's highly reliable NEMIP is an enabler for the provision of i-mode service, one of the world's leading and most advanced mobile Internet services. This platform is an integrated solution that realizes unified operations and service management, composed of well integrated subsystems.

One of these is a gateway that enables customers to gain easy, quick and secure access to the large variety of rich content offered by i-mode service providers. The mail subsystem enables customers get started easily to enjoy i-mode mail services on their mobile phones, with video and picture attachments, with full interoperability with other email or MMS enabled phones.

A portal subsystem delivers the content and makes it very easy for users to manage their subscriptions and favorite services with one click access on each mobile terminal to personal menus and services. The platform offers complete management of user information, content and services information, agent charging and billing (including real-time for pre-paid) in addition to flexible support of new features to be released in future.

The new multi-operator function enables parent operators to share a common i-mode platform and i-mode service with affiliated operators. The access to the services is very fast, so that even when a user is roaming the services are delivered like in the home network. Furthermore, this enhanced solution can also be availed of by Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) within the same country allowing operators not only to flexibly and timely expand their i-mode service, but also other mobile multimedia services, as required, with minimum investment.
