*****For immediate use November 14, 2006
Tokyo, November 14, 2006 --- NEC Corporation (represented by President Kaoru Yano, hereafter "NEC") announced that it has received orders from Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Co. (represented by President and Representative Director: Norio Wada, hereafter NTT) for what will become the core network products for deployment in NTT's NGN field trials to commence this December.
The products are to be deployed in the upcoming NGN field trials to be carried out in collaboration with information appliance vendors, service providers and other carriers etc., and will serve as core components for a next-generation network capable of interlinking sundry multimedia services.
Once the functionality of the network is validated in the NGN field trials from this December, NTT group plans to offer services such as broadband Internet access, IP telephony, multicast communications for image distribution, two-way image (data) communications, and Ethernet services via the NGN. Under current plans, the NGN will expand to a scale that enables fiber service to be provided to a user base of about 30 million.
NEC has historically possessed high-level technologies, skills and know-how required for next generation networks (NGNs). This includes core technologies such as optical, wireless, IP and broadcast, the know-how to develop highly reliable carrier-class large-scale software and embedded software, technical skill with devices such as semiconductors and the ability to integrate technologies for overall network optimization.
NEC credits this order partly from NTT to the high appraisals of the company's work with NGN and the relationship of trust it has cultivated with NTT over many years.
NEC will make maximum use of its capabilities and strive to create desirable products and services as a partner that customers can trust.
