NEC Presents IPTV Platform Solution at ITU Telecom World 2006

Tokyo, December 1, 2006 --- Triple play is focused on one of NGN killer application which integrates TV telephony, VOD/IPTV and web service over common platform of NGN. At ITU Telecom 2006, NEC presents end-to-end solution from IP-Set Top Box to contents delivery platform based on collaboration of our business domain, network, IT and broadcasting. Demonstration shows TV telephony, high definition VoD/IPTV and its combination in conjunction with Multimedia Service Access Node, supporting ADSL, VDSL and G-PON.

In order to achieve end-to-end solution, IPTV platform solutions including contribution network and head-end are introduced and demonstrated. The solution includes;

1) Non-compressed video signal optical transmission
2) MPEG-2 Video encoder for SD/HD and H.264/MPEG-4 AVC for Mobile TV
3) Master control switchers, audio video converters, frame synchronizer.

NEC will show and illustrate following points with its IPTV platform solution, which is based on NEC's digital broadcasting business experience.

- High video quality demonstration using H.264 High profile encoder
- Real-time live video demonstration by real-time compression with MPEG2 IP-CODEC.
- Demonstration of H.264 baseline profile encoder/decoder which has already commercialized
- Media asset management encourages improving efficiency and streamlining work-flow with encoding server, archive server, metadata retrieval terminals. A part of media asset management solutions are demonstrated with real-time using retrieval terminal connected with archive server.
