NEC Participates in NTT's Field Trial for Next-Generation Networks

*****For immediate use April 27, 2007

Tokyo, April 27, 2007 --- NEC Corporation and NEC Biglobe today announced their participation in a field trial for Next-Generation Networks (NGNs), which was launched by NTT in December, 2006. In the field trial, both companies will verify five services to promote enhanced B to B/ in B and B to C collaboration. Through participation, NEC expects to expand the use of NGN in both the enterprise and personal product areas.

The services NEC will verify are:

【B to B, in B Services】
1. Ubiquitous Desk Service

Secure online web meeting service that can be used among a company's HQs and branch offices. In the meeting, each member can share materials such as videos, voice data, documents, application software, and a memo pad.
High capacity storage service, in which multimedia data can be registered and accessed by each office.

2. Data Center Service for Small and Mid-size Retailers

Supports easy system construction using a service portal function. Systems, such as a promotion video delivery system and a web consulting system, can utilize the safe and secure functions of NGNs.
Will verify whether current IT systems can take easy advantage of the secure connection of NGNs and quality of service on enterprise portal sites.

3. Video Transmission Service for Broadcast Station

Transmission service for sending high-definition video data between a broadcast studio and live broadcast site, or other broadcast stations. This enables swifter and more reliable service than video tape transportation.

【B to C Services】
4. High Quality Triple Play Service

Triple play service (video phone, high-vision video and internet) for families using STB-connected TV.

5. High Definition Video Delivery Trial for Consumer PCs

NEC Biglobe offers a high quality video delivery service to consumer PC monitors that live in Tokyo through a video portal site, Biglobe Stream.

NEC plans to showcase the above services in its Broadband Solution Centers, which are located in Minato-Ku, Tokyo and Osaka Business Park.
