Tokyo, July 29, 2008 - NEC Corporation has released its fifth Annual Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) Report and its second CSR Digest, which incorporate NEC’s CSR-related practices and performance results for fiscal 2008 (the fiscal year ended March 31, 2008).
NEC is seeking to alleviate challenging social issues through innovative CSR activities that include business compliance and economic responsibility for the sustainable development of society and the NEC Group.
In April 2008, NEC formulated the NEC Group Vision 2017, “To be a leading global company leveraging the power of innovation to realize an information society friendly to people and the earth,” which represents the principles that NEC envisions for itself as a company, and for the society that the NEC Group will strive to help achieve in ten years. “For the NEC Group, CSR means contributing to the proper conduct of businesses in order to realize our vision,” said Kaoru Yano, President of NEC Corporation. “It also means leveraging our strengths in order to help solve, through our core businesses, the various issues facing customers and society as a whole. I’m confident that this is the NEC Group’s most important social responsibility.”
NEC’s Annual CSR Report for 2008 provides an in-depth overview of its CSR-related activities, including enterprises that help solve social issues, corporate governance, compliance, risk management, business continuity and information security. Initiatives also include responses to NEC stakeholder interests, customers, investors, business partners, community members and employees. Furthermore, the implementation of a unified PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) management approach includes an outline for policies, frameworks, 2008 fiscal practices, objectives and results, in addition to monitoring and improvement measures, that were established based on the Global Reporting Initiative’s (“GRI”) G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. The International Institute for Human, Organization and the Earth, a Japanese non-profit organization, gives an independent review of NEC’s activities and results, identifying areas of excellence and areas requiring greater effort. The Annual CSR Report 2008, including the Annual Environmental Report 2008, is available online at http://www.nec.co.jp/csr/en/report2008/.
