NEC’s Mobile Backhaul Solution Demonstrates Interoperability in the Largest Public Multi-Vendor Carrier Ethernet Interoperability Test Event to Date

***For immediate use September 22, 2008

Tokyo, September 22, 2008 – Several of NEC Corporation’s mobile backhaul solution products successfully demonstrated interoperability in a public multi-vendor Carrier Ethernet interoperability test hosted by the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC) from August 18th to the 29th 2008. The event was designed to show the development and “business ready” state of the Carrier Ethernet eco-system and exhibit NEC’s portfolio of Carrier Ethernet ready products.

As traffic volumes for HSPA, WiMAX and future upcoming LTE networks reach new levels, NEC’s mobile network customers have an increasing need to transition from TDM to Ethernet based transport. The interoperability event provided a transparent platform to demonstrate working migration options for mobile and fixed carriers evolving to Ethernet transport architectures.

In this test, 28 major telecommunications equipment vendors provided their equipment. NEC verified the interoperability of its high-performance Mobile Backhaul Solution portfolio, including PASOLINK NEO, PASOLINK NEO TE and CX2600. The test focused on Microwave Transport, end-to-end OAM, Performance Monitoring, and Pseudowire Emulation features. NEC was able to successfully demonstrate the interoperability of these products with a variety of vendors’ Carrier Ethernet equipment.

NEC values the opportunity to demonstrate both the maturity of its products and the convergence of industry standards as promoted by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), of which NEC is a member.

NEC equipment will be showcased at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress (CEWC) from September 22nd to the 26th 2008 in Berlin, Germany.
