Tokyo, November 7, 2008 - NEC Corporation today announced its participation in GMI 2008 (Global MSF Interoperability), an event held every two years in order to promote interoperability and standardization of Next Generation Networks (NGN) and open architecture sponsored by the international MultiService Forum, (MSF) (http://www.msforum.org/). Verification tests at this year’s event included such services as IMS based IPTV, QoS management (Note: 1), and SOA (Note: 2) interconnectivity.
GMI 2008 has set out to support, implement and gauge the latest NGN related international standards as they apply to a wide variety of companies and their product’s interoperability in a multi-vendor environment. Verification testing of devices provided by twenty-two of the world’s leading communications equipment vendors (Note: 3) took place from October 20 to 31, 2008 between five locations spanning the United States (three locations), England (one location) and China (one location). NEC participated in GMI 2008 with NGN and IPTV related products that included the NC5000 Series, NC7000 Series, NC9000 Series (Note: 4), QoS router, and IMS-based UE.
The interoperability of NEC equipment was demonstrated at a site provided by Verizon, in Waltham, Massachusetts that included telecommunications equipment covering IMS, IPTV and SoA technologies. NEC participated in IMS based IPTV testing, which included the recording and replay functions of VoD services, in addition to the testing of QoS control through a high traffic environment for IPTV. Furthermore, SOA testing took place with VoP call control (Third Party Call Control) from a server application.
Interconnectivity, as defined by the MSF (MSF R4 Architecture) and implementation agreement testing scenarios were supported by NEC devices, which underwent successful interoperability testing with equipment developed by a range of companies under global standards for 3GPP, TISPAN, ITU-T and others.
The MSF is an international organization established in 1998 that includes some of the world’s leading carriers, service providers, system suppliers, test device vendors and others. Implementation agreements and interoperability testing is expected to contribute a great deal to worldwide device compatibility and standardization proposals that lead to greater development of multiservice NGN and open architecture. NEC regards interoperability verification as essential to the global expansion of products related to NGN and IMS based IPTV, and is seeking to create greater cooperative links between leading companies throughout the world. Furthermore, NEC serves as an MSF board member that works to drive the expansion of NGN through proactive implementation of interface rules and testing scenarios.
NEC capitalizes on its experience and know-how gained through development of network business with communications carriers to create convenient new value added services that drive even greater production from communications networks.
Furthermore, NEC will participate in the IPTV World Forum Asia 2008, being held in Singapore on December 4 – 5, 2008. The company will capitalize on the event to introduce results from GMI 2008, address interest in IPTV solutions, and showcase NEC’s IMS based IPTV solution.
