Tokyo, December 3, 2008 - NEC Corporation announced today that two of the company's members, Kunihiro Taniguchi and Tetsuo Inoue, have been recognized with the "Circle of Excellence Award" by the international MSF (MultiService Forum)at a series of industry meetings held in Nassau, Bahamas, December 2-4, 2008. This year marks the first time that NEC members have been recognized by the MSF, which promotes the ongoing preparation for advanced open architecture and NGN (Next Generation Networks).
The "Circle of Excellence Award" is conferred on individuals who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments through the MSF's GMI 2008 testing (Global MSF Interoperability), which is held once every two years. Two members from NEC have been recognized this year for their contributions to interoperability verification for services that include IMS-based IPTV, QoS (Note: 1)control and SoA (Note: 2).
Mr. Taniguchi is accredited with leading research behind the implementation of favorable conditions for the interoperability of IMS and IPTV products, which was accomplished as an editor of test scenario and interface documents impacting a wide range of companies.
Mr. Inoue was recognized for his role in coordinating the interoperability verification of products from a variety of telecommunications device vendors, which took place at Verizon facilities in Boston, and successfully testing interoperability between IMS-based VoD for IPTV, QoS control and SoA.
In addition to Verizon's endorsement of both men for the "Circle of Excellence Award," NEC views the award as recognition of their exceptional dedication, as well as the company's commitment to driving the advancement and diffusion of IMS and IPTV services.
GMI 2008 aims to support, implement and gauge the latest NGN related international standards as they apply to a wide variety of companies and their product's interoperability in a multi-vendor environment. Verification testing of devices provided by twenty-two of the world's leading communications equipment vendors (Note: 3)took place from October 20 to 31, 2008 between five locations spanning the United States (three locations), England (one location)and China (one location). NEC participated in GMI 2008 with NGN and IPTV related products that included the NC5000 Series, NC7000 Series, NC9000 Series (Note: 4), QoS router and IMS-based UE.
Furthermore, NEC will participate in the IPTV World Forum Asia 2008, being held in Singapore December 4-5, 2008. The company will capitalize on the event to introduce results from GMI 2008 (Note: 5), address interest in IPTV solutions, and showcase NEC's IMS based IPTV solutions.
