NEC positioned as a principal supplier of technology for the implementation of TDT(Terrestrial Digital Television) in Spain Abertis to use NEC's radio link technology for TDT deployment in Spain
NEC technologies prove more flexible and scalable

*** For immediate use February 13, 2009

Tokyo, February 13, 2009 -- NEC Corporation, one of the world's leading providers of Internet, broadband network and enterprise business solutions, announced that its subsidiary NEC Iberica is positioned as one of the principal suppliers of technology for Abertis Telecom's digital broadcasting network.

Abertis Telecom deploys NEC's PASOLINK for the backhaul of its digital broadcasting network, which transmits digital signals between the digital broadcasting sites being widely expanded throughout Spain. As a result, this accelerates the technology shift from analogue, which is scheduled to be switched-off in 2010, to digital. In addition, this technology allows Abertis Telecom to offer voice and data transmission to both public and corporate users. According to Mr. Jaime Serrano, General Manager of NEC Iberica, "Abertis Telecom has shown its confidence in NEC's products, which feature modularity, flexibility and reliability."

NEC's PASOLINK NEO is able to expand radio transmission capacity from 10 Mbps to 150 Mbps using only one specialized card, without having to invest in new infrastructure. Furthermore, its established radio links allow signals to be transmitted from urban areas, like central Spain, to suburban and rural areas composed of small towns.

According to Mr. Jaime Serrano, "through this project, we are contributing to the establishment of a nationwide digital broadcasting network and NEC is able to prove the importance of its role in developing an information linked society in Spain."
