New NEC and Microsoft Solution Based on BI and Data Warehousing Collaboration --- NEC Becomes the First Japanese Vendor of Servers and Storage Supporting Microsoft(R) SQL Server(R) Fast Track Data Warehouse ---

*** For immediate use September 15, 2009

Tokyo, September 15, 2009 - Microsoft Co., Ltd (*1) (Microsoft) and NEC Corporation (*2) (NEC) today announced that NEC has started sales of the "NEC Edition SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse" for the Japanese market. The new solution, equipped with NEC Express 5800 series of servers and products from NEC Storage D series, results from collaboration between Microsoft and NEC, and supports Microsoft's SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse pretested reference configuration for data warehousing.
The SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse is a data warehousing solution offering comprehensive best practices for delivering optimum performance of up to 32TB by combining the SQL Server 2008, optimized for sequential I/O, with pretested servers and storage designed for data warehousing applications.
The two companies collaborated on the development of the NEC Edition SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse, which combines Microsoft SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse with the NEC Storage D series and the Express 5800 series of servers that have retained top share in Japan's IA server sales for 13 consecutive years (*3). This makes NEC the first Japanese vendor to support the SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse.
The NEC Edition can be offered in a 1-storage unit (2TB) configuration that costs less to deploy than the smallest SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse configuration available to date (2-storage units, 4TB), enabling easy access for customers looking for small- to medium-scale data warehousing solutions.
NEC has also added the NEC Edition SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse to the product lineup supported by its DecisionNavigator(R) system integration service, which uses its own BI and data warehousing configuration specialists. Under this service, a dedicated team of about 80 specialists provides total solutions from PDCA consulting services to the building of BI/and data warehousing solutions that best match customers' needs.
From October of this year, the two companies will hold joint seminars, and will work together on cultivating customers, framing proposals and generating sales.
The configuration of the NEC Edition SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse is as follows.

2TB
Software SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition*
Server NEC Express5800/R120a-2 (Intel(R) Xeon(R) X5570 processor Quad Core 2.93GHz x 1) (max 2)
Storage NEC Storage D1-10 (Dual Controller, 300GB x 12 drives)

* Open business license with 25 CALs

Looking forward, Microsoft and NEC will work together on the proposals and sales of BI and data warehousing solutions centered on NEC Edition SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse.
The companies plan to offer the NEC Edition SQL Server Fast Track Data Warehouse throughout worldwide markets, including North America.
