NEC Provides New Fault Tolerant Server with Twice the Processing Performance of Existing Models

*** For immediate use October 28, 2009

Tokyo, October 28, 2009 - NEC Corporation today announced the sales launch of two new "NEC Express5800/ft series" fault tolerant servers (*1), the mid-range "NEC Express5800/R320a-M4," which provides approximately twice (*2) the processing performance of existing models, and the "NEC Express5800/R320a-E4" entry model.

Primary features of the NEC Express5800/R320a-M4 and NEC Express5800/R320a-E4 models are as follows:

  1. Approximately twice the processing performance of existing models
Equipped with the latest Intel(R) Xeon(R) 5500 processors (*3). High speed access between the CPU and memory enabled by Intel(R) QuickPath Interconnect technologies allows the NEC Express5800/R320a-M4 to achieve approximately twice the performance of existing models (320Fd-MR).
  2. Large increase in memory / HDD capacity
Supports up to four times the main memory capacity (96 GB) and 2.6 times the HDD (2.4TB) of existing models. Ideal for database systems that require large capacity main memory and HDD.
  3. Equipped with the "EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 2" for remote server monitoring
The R320a-M4 and R320a-E4 come standard with the EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 2, which enables remote control and monitoring from a management PC. Centralized control enables remotely located administrators to improve system availability.

NEC aims to expand business and introduce the NEC Express5800/R320a-M4 and the NEC Express5800/R320a-E4 to markets throughout the world, including Asia/Oceania, North America and Europe.
