NEC supplies Greek Digital Network Operator Digea with DVB-T Transmitters

Tokyo February 1st 2010 - NEC Corporation (NEC) announced today that it has signed an exclusive five-year agreement with Digea (PSIFIAKOS PAROCHOS S.A.) for the supply of NEC DVB-T transmitters. The agreement, signed in autumn 2009, will allow Digea to launch one of the largest and most modern (MPEG-4) private DVB-T networks in the country, with a near 100 per cent population coverage.

Digea is a Greek Digital Network Operator that provides a broadcasting network for digital terrestrial television transmission in Greece, offering seven free-to-air nationwide Greek private TV channels (Alpha, Alter, ANT1, Makedonia TV, MEGA, SKAI, STAR).

Within the framework of this agreement, it covers more than 300 DVB-T transmitters; in 2009 NEC provided the equipment for transmission from Xilokastro, Peloponnesus, while transmission is currently underway at Thessaloniki and Athens Patras and Larissa that will follow within the first half of 2010.
With the use of NEC transmission technology, the Digea network will cover approximately 60 per cent of the population by early 2010, broadcasting in DVB-T/MPEG-4.
