NEC Strengthens its Telecoms Cloud Services --- NEC Appoints New Head of European Cloud Competence Centre ---

*** For immediate use May 6, 2010

London 28 April 2010...NEC Europe Ltd (NEC) announced today the appointment of Isaac Mendoza to head up the NEC Cloud Competence Centre. NEC has established its Cloud Competence Centre as a resource for telecom operators looking to provide cloud services and applications to their customers.

"NEC's Cloud Competence Centre aims to offer our customers the creative, nimble and innovative skills of the Web 2.0 generation with a carrier's understanding of reliability to deliver next-generation, carrier-led cloud solutions," said Isaac Mendoza, director, NEC's Cloud Competence Centre. "For example, this unique mix of expertise enabled Telefonica to market its 'Aplicateca' range of on-demand, office suite third-party applications to small- and medium-sized businesses while NEC managed the cloud-based, back office of the service with an innovative business model."

NEC's Cloud Competence Centre provides strategic planning, business modeling, partner management and support for fixed and mobile operators. It helps and advises telecom operators to find additional revenues and maximize profits from cloud computing.

"NEC understands the requirements of telecom operators looking to build new businesses around the cloud. Our heritage and expertise in IT and communications means that we have a holistic view of telecoms cloud services: from the need to innovate and deploy new services at internet speed through to the requirement for carrier-grade service levels on demand," said Richard Hanscott, vice president, Network Solutions, NEC.

Mendoza will manage an international team comprised of in-country NEC executives with expertise in cloud services, business development and solutions. NEC's Cloud Competence Centre has its hub in Madrid and stretches globally to include a network of knowledge, services and technology.

NEC recently announced that it has brought together its European business to focus on cloud computing by leveraging its expertise in communications, networks, IT and computing solutions. NEC has brought together these services to help telecom operators entering new businesses to find additional revenues from cloud computing services.
