NEC Continued Expansion of Industrial Flat Panel Offering Defines NEC's Commitment To Vertical Markets
Focusing on providing a wide range of industrial flat panel display solutions, NEC Corporation (NEC)* today rolled out two new 10.4-inch modules. Targeted at industrial and instrumentation applications, the panels demonstrate NEC's commitment to continue to deliver the latest in technology advances to its strategic vertical markets.
Highlighted At Comdex/Fall
NEC's two new 10.4-inch panels are on display at Comdex/Fall in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 10.4-inch NL6448AC33-29 display offers a brightness of 250 candelas per meter squared (cd/m2), which is 60 candelas more than the previous version yet maintains the same power dissipation. This power-efficient performance is important to displays used in industrial settings where lighting may be different than in a typical office environment. The panel also features reverse scan and NEC's ultra-wide viewing angle technology with a 160-degree conical viewing area.
The NL6448CC33-30 comes without a backlight, allowing the manufacturer to customize the brightness for each application. As well as also offering reverse scan, it supports rugged environments with an extended temperature range of -10 to +70 degrees Centigrade, (30 degrees wider than the temperature range in LCD modules for notebook PC applications) allowing it to be used outdoors or in settings without a fan.
Pricing and Availability
Both products are available immediately in sample quantities and are planned for mass production in Q4 1998. With pricing and availability subject to change, please contact NEC representatives for current information.
NEC's Flat Panel Display Products
NEC's flat panel display (both liquid crystal and plasma) technology enables manufacturers to produce larger, thinner, lighter displays that use less space than existing CRT solutions. Traditionally, LCD technology has been best suited for applications requiring thin [less than 10 millimeters (mm)], low-power [approximately 2 watts (W)] and lightweight (approximately 350 grams) solutions. But in factory automation applications, high brightness, wide viewing angles and flexibility to meet demanding environmental factors are the predominant requirements.
The company has an extensive offering of active-matrix thin film technology (TFT) flat panel displays and plasma display panels (PDPs), ranging from 5.5-inch to 20.1-inch LCD panels, and 33-inch, 42-inch and 50-inch diagonal PDP products. LCD resolutions include QVGA (320x240), VGA (640x480), SVGA (800x600), XGA (1024x768), and SXGA (1280x1024) in 6-bit/color and full-color technologies. PDP resolutions include 640x480 and protocols and in 6- and 8-bit/color depths.
These products address a wide range of markets -- from mobile computing, desktop CRT replacement, factory automation, financial trading terminals and medical instrumentation, information displays and kiosks to in-flight entertainment and multimedia projection systems.
The company has extensive worldwide manufacturing capabilities, producing more than 235,000 12-inch equivalent panels per month.
