NEC To Introduce Large Scale, Carrier Class Router Series for IP Network Service Solutions

NEC Corporation (NEC) (NASDAQ: NIPNY) (FTSE: 6701q.l) today announced its new 'IX Series' of large-scale, carrier class routers to the international market. The IX7000 core router and IX5000 edge router are expected to be delivered to the market in October 1999 and enable a smooth, effective migration path from carriers' existing ATM/SDH/SONET networks.

The IX Series focuses a combination of QoS/CoS technology, which NEC has used for a variety of telecom carrier-class networks, and IP (Internet protocol) technologies, to offer the world's highest level of packet forwarding capabilities as well as support for various line interfaces.

This highly reliable router is well-suited to intranet and extranet or conventional voice and data applications, and to broader areas such as tele-medicine, tele-conferencing, education, stock and banking applications.

To realize NEC's 'Photonic IP Networking total solution', the IX Series will be enhanced to offer migration and connection with WDM backbone networks.
